A review of Phillips & Preece by The Ergyng Epicurean written on Sunday 3rd of January 2021
One tends to get drawn in with the fancy shop fronts and marketing these days. However this Christmas I was caught out and had forgotten the Christmas dinner ! In a blind panic I consulted the chaps at Phillips and Preece in the Butter market, showing my ignorance of cuts and joints of meat (P&P however remained polite, patient and professional whilst dealing with me - difficult I know !) and I ended up buying a joint of gammon and "number 1" beef joint.
I cooked up said joints for Christmas dinner, honey glazing the gammon and just simply baking the beef with rosemary.
With some trepidation I served up wondering; had I made a big mistake ? should I have gone to the fancy butchers instead ? The meat was better than previous fancy butchers and surpassed all my expectations; tender, tasty and not one bit of gristle !
Thanks guys you are a Hereford secret that needs to be let out the bag - forget the fancy butchers just make a bee line for P&P !.
